Egnater Replacment Fan Mod....

This is a re post from the Egnater Forum

Anyone know where I can get a better than OEM replacement fan? I'm on fan number 2 and now it's making noises less than a year later - I use the amp mostly at home...go figure.

Thanks - Chris

Hi Chris, a few things you can do. You can replace the fan with any PC Case Fan, Nexus are very good but the Akasa LED Case fans are as good as you need. You will need to take the white plastic connecter off the Egnater fan, its quite easy. You don't need the Yellow/White wire on the new fan. You'll need to solder the Egnater connecter onto your new fan and your good to go. A few other things you can do....I have put a Zalman FanMate on my fan, this lets you turn down the power of the fan to stop it being so loud. It also reduces air flow, so I placed four rubber feet on the front Egnater grill under the screws this will give you a small gap between the amp chassis and the grill, and you can feel cool air being sucked through this gap. It's then just a mater of reducing the power of the fan till you stop hearing it. The fan on Renegade amps is very important, YOU DO NEED IT. A new fan, a FanMate and the gap has stopped the fan noise being noticeable when playing quiet at home but has also reduced the temperature build up in the amp, which is good, then when I'm playing a gig I just turn the Zalman fanMate up full, Easy.

 Hope this helps....k.j.

  1. I just bought a used Renegade and I LOVE it! The only problem was that the fan rattled very loudly when I powered up. There are lots of replacement computer case fans out there. Look for one with these specs: 80x80x25mm, 12vDC, 0.2a, and 2 pin connector (ideally with a male plug if you can find one - I couldn't). The one I got had a female plastic connector plug so I just cut the connectors off both the old and new fans, and soldered the male connector from the original fan onto the new fan's leads. The new fan fits the Renegade's internal bracket perfectly and it works great. Air flow is better and its now whisper quiet.

  2. I have had the annoying noisy fan for years, until I had enough of it.
the problem with the fan, is it is transmitting the noise via the bracket on (into) the wooden box, acting as an amplifier for this noise as well.

    I have mitigated this by:
procuring a better, more silent fan, that has rubber mountings.
I have cut out two pieces of rubber (mouse mat), and placed these under the two brackets, thereby interrupting (dampen) the vibration from the fan onto the wood. I used the normals screws to hold these in place.
Next, I secured the fan onto the brackets, using simple tie-wraps.

finally, I soldered the old lead (black/red) to the new one, making sure that the fan spins in the correct direction.

job done, amp is now totally silent, I really have to hold my ear against the amp head to make sure it is running :-)

  3. I would love to know the specific fan you used. The make and model and all the tech specs on it. the watts or amps etc. I am afraid of messing up the amp. I am not a electronics kind of guy. Thanks

  4. I am looking for the proper specs for a replacement fan. Current and Power consumption. Or a specific make and model that will work and be very quiet. The cost of the fan is not a concern.
    Thanks
